So, what the hell is this?

Bastard. A strange name, but also a strange, yet delightful free pdf magazine. Bastard is a non-profit online magazine. It’s created from the passion towards art & design with its different visions and ideas from all around the world.

This magazine is a submission driven art & design magazine. We are keen to present a broad range of styles. Every 3 months artists and designers present themselves in the magazine, featuring work that is of high quality but little known amongst a wider audience. It is a colorfoul mix of illustrations, design and photography, with a wide variety of angles, themes and styles. Bastard sees itself as a platform for promoting worldwide graphic design and encouraging networking with it.

Bastard dispenses entirely with editional contributions. We want to present visual art in it's purest form. The magazines strives to present only the work itself and nothing more. No biographical information regarding the creators of the work, no review or assessment of the work, and no other form of written content that could influence or inform the reader further than the immediate emotional response that the work itself prompts. More profound information about the artists and their aims and ideas can be found on the website.

Every issue of the Magazine also features a sampler with free music. Young musicians present their work and are featured in a nice digital album, which brings together a lot of various genres. Once again, you'll find any further facts and information on our website.

You can download a free copy of the magazine and save it on your PC, Mac, or iPad. But please don't offer your copy for download on any kind of webspace or website. You may link to our site to tell the world about Bastard magazine, but please link to the site and not to the PDF files. Thanks a lot.

To view Bastard magazine, you need a computer, Adobe Acrobat Reader and eyes. If you are using an iPad, you can also import the PDF file into your iBook library and view it from there.

Damn, can I become a part of this?

Sure! Bastard is a submission driven magazine. We are always looking for your works! If you want to submit your art to Bastard magazine, please read the submission guide first. Submissions not fitting the rules will not be used in the magazine.

What do you mean, you are back?

The Bastard Magazine has been dead for nearly 4 years now. There has always been the dream, to get this thing back on track after it passed away in 2008.

issues

From 2005 to 2008, there have been 11 issues of Bastard Magazine plus a special interview edition. We had the pleasure to present works from nearly 100 different artists and interviews with some icons of art and design, like Seb Janiak, Stanley Donwood, Dirk Behlau, Chuck Anderson, Thomas Schostok and Kai Heuser, to name just a few. Also, Bastard Magazine has been featured on many design portals and the very well known german design print magazine Novum. Now, before you start asking: These issues are gone and will never return. Don't try begging.

Of course all fans are waiting impatient to read/see/enjoy the new magazine. To shorten the time until release feel free to download the 'best of bastard magazine - volume 1', which has been released in 2011, right here.

Anything else?

Thanks

Thanks a lot to everybody who helped us to bring Bastard Magazine back to the web. Thanks to the people around us, supporting us with love and being very patient while we were working hard on this.

Extra special love and a big thank you to all the design portals and artists that post a link to Bastard Magazine. We apreciate this. And be sure, Bastard Magazine would not be what it is today without your support.
